Smith Industries is the leading fabricator of oil and gas surface production equipment in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. Since 2004, we've provided design engineering, drafting, procurement, fabrication, and modular construction to operators across the Permian Basin.
The Blaster prepares tanks and vessels for coating by abrasive blasting, and assists with painting and coating to customer and quality specifications, working closely with Quality Assurance to make sure every unit meets requirements.
Essential Duties:
- Abrasive blast tanks and vessels to prepare surfaces for coating, handling blast media hoses and spraying in a sustained, consistent pattern
- Assist with painting and coating by spray, roller, and brush on a variety of substrates
- Confirm unit specifications with the supervisor before starting work
- Work from scissor lifts, ladders, and scaffolds during blasting and application
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot pumps and components so they are ready for work at all times
- Maintain department equipment and report missing or damaged components to the supervisor
- Work with Quality Assurance to meet quality and customer requirements, report quality issues promptly, and help complete quality records
- Assist with the assembly and loading of tanks and vessels
- Meet daily production requirements efficiently
- Follow all safety policies, wear required PPE, and report all incidents immediately; stop work when a job cannot be done safely
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Experience and Education
- High school diploma or equivalent experience
- Working knowledge of blasting, coating, and painting processes
- Knowledge of tanks and vessels, including their components and parts
Skills and Abilities
- Operate a scissor lift and work safely from ladders and scaffolds
- Troubleshoot pump issues as they come up
- Learn and follow API quality standards and verbal instructions from the department manager
- Team player with a high level of dedication
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Stand and walk up to 90% of the workday
- Occasionally bend, squat, and climb ladders and stairways
- Occasionally lift up to 60 lbs and handle 60-lb blast media hoses during blasting
- Judge weights, distances, and heights
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
