Position Overview 

  • Location: Denver, CO  
  • Reports to: Deputy Operations Director   
  • Work Schedule: Work is performed on an as-needed basis. The estimated end date for this position is December 31, 2026. 
  • Workdays are typically Monday-Friday, with occasional weekend opportunities. Weekly hours will vary based on project schedules, seasonal demand, and organizational priorities. The average hours per week are 15-30 hours. 
  • Compensation: $23 per hour  
  • Status: Temporary, Part-Time, Non-Exempt 
  • Work Model: In-person

Position Summary  
Groundwork Denver is seeking a Ground Corps Member to provide field support across a variety of environmental and community programs through December 2026. 

This temporary, part-time position supports Groundwork Denver's mission by assisting with a wide variety of field-based projects that improve environmental sustainability and community well-being. Assignments will vary based on organizational needs and may include residential energy efficiency services, rain barrel installations, graywater systems, trash capture projects, green infrastructure installations, tree and garden planting and maintenance, community events, environmental stewardship projects, and other field operations. 

The employee should be comfortable performing physically demanding outdoor work, using basic hand and power tools, interacting professionally with community members, and adapting to changing project priorities. Additionally, this position regularly works in attics, crawlspaces, and other confined spaces. Opportunities for professional development and technical training may be provided based on project needs and organizational priorities.  
 
Typical Responsibilities 
  • Assist with residential energy audits and energy efficiency installations  
  • Install rain barrels and provide homeowner education  
  • Assist with graywater system installations  
  • Support trash capture and stormwater management projects  
  • Assist with green infrastructure and landscape installations  
  • Conduct basic data collection and project documentation  
  • Safely transport and organize project materials  
  • Experience safely using hand and power tools preferred 
  • Assist with community outreach and educational events  
  • Load, unload, and transport tools, equipment, and materials 
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work sites 
  • Represent Groundwork Denver professionally while interacting with residents and partners 
  • Support additional Groundwork Denver programs as assigned 
 
Qualifications, Education, and Experience 
  • High school diploma or GED required. 
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.  
  • Reliable transportation is required. A valid driver's license and insurable driving record are preferred for employees who may operate Groundwork Denver vehicles. 
  • Willingness and ability to earn appropriate certification within the temporary term (through the end of 2026) 
  • Based on the efficacy of performance in this 2026 term, there may be the opportunity to re-apply for a full year term in this role for 2027. 
  • Experience using hand and power tools.  
  • Experience in construction, landscaping, environmental work, maintenance, energy efficiency, or similar trades preferred  
  • Ability to communicate professionally with residents and community partners  
  • Spanish language skills are a plus 
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 
  • Ability to safely use basic tools and equipment, including ladders, drills, screwdrivers, and diagnostic testing equipment. 
  • Ability to climb ladders, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and work in attics, crawlspaces, and other confined spaces. 
  • Safety permitting work outdoors in varying weather conditions and work in attics, crawlspaces, roofs, gardens, and other physically demanding environments  
  • Follow safety procedures  
  • Work independently with minimal supervision  
  • Adapt to changing project schedules and priorities

  • Our main office is located in the Cole neighborhood of Denver, accessible by public transportation and is ADA compliant. Work assignments take place throughout the Denver metropolitan area.
