Legal & Compliance Officer
- Uphold all principles of confidentiality to the fullest extent.

- Participate in departmental staff meetings, quality management activities and educational programs.

- Maintain a current insurable driver’s license.
This position is responsible for ensuring that tribal departments, grants, and enterprises comply with applicable federal, state, and tribal regulations. The individual will develop policies, manage risk, conduct operational audits, and provide staff training to maintain legal, ethical, and grant-related compliance. Key responsibilities include reporting any violations, maintaining comprehensive documentation, and acting as a liaison with regulatory agencies.
- Develop, implement, and update policies, procedures, and standards of conduct to prevent misconduct.
- Oversee compliance for grant-funded programs, including financial monitoring, reporting, and adherence to grant regulations.
- Report findings to tribal leadership and external agencies, and serve as the primary contact for compliance matters.
- Develop and deliver training programs to ensure employees understand compliance policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 3–5 years of experience in regulatory compliance, auditing
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business Administration, Public Administration, Law).
- Good communication skills, writing skills, and the ability to relate to diverse populations will be required, with a working knowledge and expertise in data processing and computer technologies.
- Deep understanding of federal, state, and tribal laws, as well as grant management (e.g., Uniform Guidance).
- Strong analytical, communication, and, in some cases, supervisory skills, with proficiency in software like Microsoft Office and auditing too.
- Must possess a valid NC driver’s license.
This position is subject to a criminal history background check, and a Motor Vehicle check. Candidates must successfully pass all required background checks in order to qualify for this position.
