Job Title: Inventory Receiver
Department: Operations
Reports To: Inventory Manager
Job Summary:
The Inventory Receiver is responsible for executing all receiving operations within the lumber yard and retail store, ensuring accurate intake, documentation, and organization of incoming products. Reporting directly to the Inventory Manager, this role plays a critical part in maintaining inventory accuracy, supporting shrink reduction efforts, and aligning local receiving practices with company-wide inventory control standards. The Inventory Receiver works closely with purchasing, sales, and warehouse teams to ensure timely and accurate product flow. The ideal candidate will demonstrate attention to detail, reliability, and a strong understanding of lumber and building materials (LBM) receiving procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Receiving Operations:
Unload and inspect incoming shipments of LBM and millwork products. Verify product quality, quantity, and accuracy against purchase orders and delivery documentation.
Documentation & System Updates:
Accurately record received items in inventory systems. Report discrepancies, damaged goods, or missing items to the Inventory Manager and Purchasing Department.
Inventory Control Support:
Execute receiving procedures in alignment with company standards. Contribute to cycle count accuracy, shrink reduction, and product traceability through detailed documentation and tagging.
Material Handling & Equipment Operation:
Safely operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment to move, stage, and store products. Ensure proper handling of special orders and high-value items.
Product Organization & Tagging:
Label and organize received items in designated storage areas. Maintain clear and accurate product locations to support inventory visibility and operational efficiency.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Coordinate with the Inventory Manager, sales team, and delivery staff to ensure product availability and readiness for customer fulfillment.
Safety & Compliance:
Follow all company safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized receiving area. Ensure compliance with equipment operation standards and workplace safety procedures.
Process Accountability:
Execute receiving tasks as defined by the Inventory Manager. Maintain high standards of accuracy and accountability in all receiving activities.
Qualifications:
Experience:
Prior experience in receiving or warehouse operations, preferably within the lumber and building materials industry.
Skills:
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently. Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Technical Proficiency:
Familiarity with inventory systems and basic computer skills. Experience with ERP tools and point-of-sale systems is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move heavy materials (up to 75 lbs) and work in outdoor environments.
