Position Overview:
The Associate Director of Academic Accommodations is responsible for facilitating academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities and assisting the Director of the Learning Centers with oversight of the daily functions of the department.
 
Organizational Relationships:
Reports to and is accountable to the Director of the Learning Centers 
 
Major Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate Academic Accommodations 
    • Receive, review, and process applications for academic accommodations 
    • Survey, analyze, and validate documentation submitted with regard to academic accommodations requests 
    • Communicate approved accommodations with faculty and students 
    • Provide academic counseling to academic accommodations students 
  • Manage the Student Accommodation Manager (SAM) database that houses accommodations records 
  • Research and remain apprised of current ADA laws and legal regulations to ensure university compliance
  • Provide educational enrichment and support to faculty with accommodations students
  • Assist with registration and course selection for current and incoming students
  • Advise students deemed academically at risk, as defined by Nelson policy 
    • Serve as academic advisor for students on placed on academic probation
  • Assist with oversight of the daily functions of the Learning Centers
  • Ensure the integrity and privacy of all student records

  • Ability to protect the privacy of educational and health records
  • Ability to serve guests effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to work professionally and courteously with prospective students, students, faculty, and staff
  • Ability to establish rapport with students
  • Demonstrated high level of counseling skills
  • Proven ability to work both independently and be an effective team member
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
    • Degree in Counseling, Education or related field preferre
    • Master’s Degree preferred
