This position will be responsible for managing and overseeing the Hands & Rose coffee shop at UPPERROOM. Our Hands & Rose Manager will bring the UPPERROOM experience to life by developing and maintaining a smooth, efficient & profitable operation of the shop, representing Christ through exceptional customer service, and leading the team in a culture of excellence, joy and humility. This role requires someone who can drive financial success, develop efficient systems for a high-volume shop, build and retain great teams as well as foster an environment of life & connection for the community of UPPERROOM. This person must be someone with great leadership skills, a positive attitude, servant heart and a love for coffee culture & people.

Full Time (40 hrs per week) 

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

     OPERATIONAL
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the coffee shop and bookstore
  • Develop, maintain & oversee an automated inventory system to maintain healthy stock levels, inform ordering needs & minimize waste
  • Ensure all licenses & operations are up to date and aligned with annual inspection requirements
  • Ensure every employee and volunteer behind the bar is up to date with their Food Handler’s License and is in alignment with shop standards at all times
  • Ensure all shop areas are clean & tidy and maintain the condition of the coffee shop
  • Provide a monthly update of changes and progress to Hands + Rose Oversight
      FINANCIAL & TOAST MANAGEMENT
  • Monitor daily expenses, revenues, and waste to report to Hands + Rose Oversight
  • Manage the Hands + Rose budget, receipt tracking & overall tracking of expenses
  • Grow monthly sales by creating and executing an in-house marketing strategy
  • Run a biannual financial analysis of our financial statements. Determine ways to minimize costs and maximize the bottom line while still maintaining our brand, Hands + Rose culture and excellence
     STAFFING + TRAINING
  • Schedule shifts for baristas to prioritize an efficient and profit-maximizing schedule
  • Develop & maintain an onboarding & training procedure for new & existing baristas
  • Train employees in drink preparation, workflows, team culture, cash register operation, bookstore & RTD case restocking, receiving orders, opening & closing procedures etc.
  • Oversee Assistant Manager in training & fostering a healthy volunteer pool for Sunday Services & UPPERROOM Event needs
  • Manage and submit the barista payroll & tips reports biweekly to the payroll team
  • Work closely with and in submission to Human Resources in the onboarding & offboarding of baristas as well as interviewing and hiring + firing as needed
      CULTURE + CRAFT
  • Foster a team culture of joy, excellence and humility in serving shop customers
  • Elevate the craft coffee expression by developing the seasonal drink menu, working with our Socials Team to promote these drops effectively as well as educate our customers on good, craft coffee!
  • Provide suggestions for a healthier, higher quality, operationally efficient menu
  • Foster team unity by planning biannual team bonding experiences such as an annual Christmas party, team bowling, etc.
     LEADERSHIP
  • Problem-solve any operational challenges, from staff scheduling conflicts to equipment malfunctions, to pest control issues etc.
  • Make informed decisions on a daily basis to maintain a seamless workflow
  • Steward healthy, positive relationships with all Hands + Rose vendors to keep costs healthy as well as provide mutually beneficial relationships with everyone we work with (food, pastries, book authors, UPPERROOM Merch, coffee beans, etc.)
  • Meet regularly with Hands + Rose Oversight to ensure alignment of the operation as a whole with the broader organization
  • Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 
  • This position requires a minimum of 2-5 years’ experience in managing a coffee shop or a related occupation. An equivalent combination of education and experience is sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the job as listed above.
