Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Program Director to oversee the Summer Rising Program at I.S. 145 in Jackson Heights. The Program Director will be responsible for the successful planning, implementation, and supervision of daily summer programming for students in grades 6–8. This leadership role requires strong organizational, interpersonal, and management skills to ensure a safe, engaging, and enriching experience for all participants.
Program Leadership & Oversight
- Lead the planning, execution, and daily operation of the summer program.
- Ensure the program aligns with organizational goals, educational objectives, and the needs of the school community.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between school administration, program staff, and families.
- Ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students and staff.
Staff Management
- Supervise and support a team of lead and assistant teachers, enrichment specialists, and support staff.
- Conduct daily check-ins, team meetings, and provide ongoing feedback and coaching.
- Assist in onboarding and training of summer staff in coordination with senior leadership.
Program Implementation & Safety
- Monitor classroom instruction, enrichment activities, and recreational periods.
- Ensure all activities are developmentally appropriate and meet safety standards.
- Manage student attendance, behavior, and incident reporting with follow-through on disciplinary policies.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate records including schedules, attendance, incident reports, and communication logs.
- Complete all required reports and documentation in a timely manner.
- Liaise with external partners and vendors as needed.
Family & Community Engagement
- Communicate regularly with families regarding program updates, student progress, and events.
- Coordinate end-of-program celebrations and community-building events.
- Serve as a representative of the organization and school to promote a positive public image.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, social work, youth development, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role in youth programs or schools.
- Experience working with middle school-aged children.
- Strong communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
