To serve the student's needs in a cooperative, efficient and informed manner that enhances their experience at the library; to circulate library materials and manage patron records; and to retrieve materials on a timely basis.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- 20% Explains and interprets policies and procedures, answers questions, and directs students to appropriate staff by phone or in person.
- 20% Calculates and collects fines and other payments; adjusts computer records; and completes appropriate written records or forms according to established procedures.
- 20% Checks materials in and out, sorts and routes them according to procedure; files and retrieves reserve materials.
- 15% Instructs patron in the use of library materials, equipment and technologies.
- 10% Issues library cards and records student/staff information into the computer.
- 10% Works at the public service desk to help students/staff locate materials; answers questions, completes shelf checks, and places holds.
- 5% Performs other duties as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience: Up to six months of similar or related experience.
- Education: A high school education or GED.
- Interpersonal Skills: Work normally involves contacts with persons beyond immediate associates generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion. Outside contacts take the form of service to the public (students, visitors or vendors) requiring ordinary courtesy in providing assistance and information.
- Other Skills: Good communication skills, organization, basic computer skills and knowledge, ability to learn and multi-task, ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Physical Requirements: The work requires minor physical exertion such as short periods of standing, some recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Job may require recurring lifting of lightweight objects with infrequent bending or stooping alternating with the lighter activities. Job requires minimal agility and dexterity.
- Work Environment: Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a typical office.
