Position Title: Director of Compliance
Reports To: Chief Operating Officer/Chief Risk Officer
Status: Salary; Exempt
Position Summary: The Director of Compliance is the compliance expert at the bank and is responsible for ensuring the bank complies with all applicable laws and regulations across the enterprise. The person serving in this role ensures current processes align with existing regulatory requirements, consults on regulatory questions and issues, and informs bank management of regulatory changes that will impact bank operations. This person is responsible for promoting and maintaining a culture of compliance at the bank.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop and execute a bank-wide compliance management program focused on the highest risk compliance areas to identify, report, and correct identified compliance deficiencies at the bank.
- Work with department leaders to respond and lead corrective action on compliance related audit or exam findings.
- Effectively communicate with auditors or examiners to clearly express the bank’s processes and rationality in compliance related matters.
- Partner closely with department leaders to develop or enhance compliance related bank processes and procedures in all areas including but not limited to mortgage production, consumer and commercial loan production.
- Develop and execute a CRA compliance program that includes proactive monitoring and ongoing reporting/oversight of CRA related loans and other activities to Bank leadership.
- Develop and maintain expert level knowledge in all areas of Bank Compliance including but not limited to mortgage origination and servicing, consumer lending, commercial lending, HMDA reporting, CRA, and deposit compliance.
- Attend relevant training, maintain role-related certifications, and network with other compliance professionals
- Work with department leaders to identify, develop and deliver training as the subject matter expert on any compliance related topics to bank staff.
- Determine what compliance-related training courses are required for bank staff and directors and ensure this training is being completed as required by policy or regulation.
- Collect or oversee the collection of HMDA and other compliance related data to ensure data quality and conduct timely reporting as required by regulations.
- Intake compliance related questions, conduct research, and provide timely and accurate answers.
- Manage the bank’s vendor relationships for compliance related resources and systems and act as the bank’s system administrator as necessary.
- Draft or update compliance related policies and procedures to ensure accuracy and availability for bank staff.
- Participate in the Audit and Risk Committee, Leadership Committee, and any other committees as requested or assigned.
- Chair the Bank’s Compliance Committee, scheduling and facilitating meetings on at least a quarterly basis.
- Participate as a compliance subject matter expert on bank projects or lead compliance specific projects as needed or assigned.
- Provide in-person or written compliance-related materials or training courses to the Bank’s Board of Directors or Audit Committee as needed or requested.
- Adhere to all Federal and State laws and regulations applicable to the bank, including the Bank Secrecy Act and OFAC.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes at the bank and report those ideas to the Chief Risk Officer
- Perform other duties as may be required or assigned.
Supervisor Responsibilities: Supervise the Compliance department.
Education and Experience Requirements: High school graduate or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education. Three years of banking experience with expert level demonstrated compliance knowledge required. ABA’s Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) or other similar certification preferred. 2 years’ experience leading people and overseeing a bank-wide compliance management program preferred. Valid driver’s license required.
Specific Skills Required: Ability to communicate, written and verbal, effectively with people both internally and externally. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to identify and resolve problems. Organizational and time management skills. Ability to work with all levels within the organization. Basic computer skills to include proficiency in Microsoft products. Able to handle confidential information and positively represent the company.
Competencies: Self-starter, problem solving, strategic thinking, critical thinking, decision making, and strong collaboration.
System Accesses: Fiserv Precision, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, Verafin, BVS, Checkpoint, nCino, Encompass, Ncontracts, and any other systems needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
Equipment Used: Office equipment which includes computer, multi-line phone system, multi-function copier, fax, printer, headset, camera, microphone, etc.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment. Prolonged (90%) sitting and periodic (less than 10% of the time) physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry or push heavy objects or materials weighing up to 50 pounds; Constant and repetitive use of arms and hands below shoulder level for computer usage; This position requires the individual to perform normal office activities including, but not limited to, lifting, filing and retrieving, operating office equipment, etc. Frequent travel between locations may be required.

Compensation: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
