Position Overview
The purpose of this role is to lead the development office with vision, strategy and execution of the overall financial development program for the University. This will help adequately support the University’s annual budget and long-term strategic plan with contributions from the corporate and business sectors as well as from individuals and churches.
 
Major Responsibilities:

  • Development Plan: Develop and implement an annual plan that identifies the goals, objectives and strategies for major gifts and donor development events. Manage all pertinent development functions utilizing a current (CRM) database. 
  • Donor Relationships: Strengthen processes and lead activities to establish, cultivate and steward relationships with individual, church, and business donors. This includes managing all aspects of donor communication.
  • Major Gifts: Create individual donor/prospect cultivation plans and, in partnership with the Vice President of Advancement to cultivate and solicit major gifts. Develop and execute a strategy for major gift solicitation and stewardship plan.
  • Planned Giving: Create opportunities for individuals to support Nelson University and the Nelson Foundation through estate planning such as bequests, trusts, annuities, and other planned giving tools.
  • Professional Development: Remain current with fundraising best practices in Christian higher education to ensure Nelson University’s fundraising is conducted within the highest ethical and legal standards.
  • Alumni Relations: Work in partnership with the Sr. Director of Alumni in communication to alumni for involvement in the university that leads to volunteerism and financial support.
  • Oversees the Scholarship Committee and works with the Events Coordinator on the annual Donor Scholarship Luncheon
 
Organizational Relationships
·         Reports to the VP for Advancement 
 
Supervise Staff: 
  • Donor Relations Coordinator
  • Any additional staff hired in the Development office. 

Qualifications
·         Candidate must be an openly committed Christian, living a Spirit-filled life and be an active attendee of an Assemblies of God church. (some exceptions apply to type of church attendee).
·         At least 5 years of directly applicable experience and a proven track record in fund raising, public relations, and planned giving programs for schools or other non-profit institutions.
·         Having supervised one or more staff in the area of development or planned giving.
·         Have a knowledge of Planned Giving procedures (or willing to learn).
·         Relational skillset
·         Above average writing and communication skills.
·         Office managerial skills, with general knowledge in computer database systems (CRM).
·         Amenable to some travel throughout Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas, and Mississippi.
·         Bachelor’s Degree acceptable.  Master’s Degree in is preferred.
