The Loan Specialist is responsible for assisting aspiring and practicing refugee entrepreneurs to develop and grow personal income and self-employment opportunities. Assists with borrower outreach, supports delivery of Technical Assistance (TA) to small business clients and borrowers, conducts loan eligibility, processing, and closure. Assists loan officer with MED Credit Builder Loan and MED Microloan applications. Assists with maintaining close working relationships with funders, vendors, and other stakeholders. Works closely with other aspects of the Asset Building Programs and other programs and services at The Alliance to expand access and participation in small business TA and MED loan products. 
 
Main Duties Include:  

·        Supports one-on-one TA to refugee small business clients and MED Credit Builder and Microloan borrowers 

·        Supports small business clients in creation of business and finance plans 

·        Assists loan officer with due diligence for loan closure and maintenance 

·        Supports loan committee efforts in processing borrower loan proposals 

·        Ensures that all program goals and objectives are achieved 

·        Ensures and documents compliance with all agency and Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) MED requirements 

·        Ensures that program data is entered into required databases in a timely manner 

·        Ensures integrity of data 

·        Schedules and supports TA workshops for borrowers 

·        Develops/ maintains relationships with community partners to provide additional trainings/workshops 

·        Monitors monthly client progress via appropriate data bases 

·        Prepares and reviews monthly performance reports and adjusts as needed 

·        Plans and supervises applicant eligibility and organization of content in Credit Builder and MED loan files 

·        Prepares all monthly, quarterly, and semiannual reports 

·        Works with Asset Building Department financial coaches to provide additional support to TA recipients and borrowers
 
·        Processes transactions and database updates to appropriate financial data systems 

·        Prepares grant funding applications 

·        Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) meetings and disseminates information to staff to ensure continuous quality improvement 

Required Qualifications and Experience at This Level: 
 
·        A bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, or related field from a regionally accredited institution preferred (or equivalent small business/entrepreneurship experience) 

·        Loan officer at a financial institution (1-2) years preferred 

·        Experience working with refugee populations 

·        Spanish or Pashto/Dari speaker preferred 

·        Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and other job-related software/e-technology/cloud- based solutions 

·        Demonstrated cross-cultural understanding and skills working with refugees 

·        Strong interpersonal skills 

·        Ability to communicate and respond to questions in a professional and knowledgeable manner 

·        Multi-task and remain detailed oriented and organized 

·        Work independently 

·        Maintain confidentiality and strong client service at all times 

·        Consistently demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a creative approach for generating new ideas with the principles of continuous improvement 

·        Ability to follow specific instructions and adhere to safety guidelines 

·        Proven ability to work and cooperate with staff and volunteers in a professional and supportive manner 

·        Ability to coordinate, track, and report information for statistical purposes proven ability to meet deadlines 

·        Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills. 

·        Ability to drive and have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and valid auto insurance 

·        Must pass a background check 

·        Proficiency in computer use in a PC environment, including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and other common software platforms

·        Proficiency in Zoom, MS Teams, and other video conferencing platforms 

·        Must possess the capacity, technology, and connectivity to work remotely in an effective manner 

·        Must maintain vaccination against communicable diseases in accordance with organizational policies
