82nd Street Academics
seeks a full-time Program Director to start our after-school program at The Renaissance Charter School in Jackson Heights, NY. The student population is 114 students (DYCD, 6th – 8th)& (Expanded, 5th, 9th-10th) participating in the program. The program provides challenging homework help, lots of engagement with arts and enrichment activities, and family engagement. The Program Director will work closely with program staff, community partners, and school officials to design and implement high-quality curricula and learning experiences that meet the needs of diverse learners. Additionally, the Program Director will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with local businesses and organizations to provide students with access to internships, mentorship, and other career development opportunities. Virtual work is possible when schools are not in session.  

 
The hours of this position are 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday. There are weekly senior staff meetings and professional development. 
 
Major Duties: 
  • Develop a high-performance coaching team of 15 members. Makes informal visits to observe each classroom and quarterly appraisals.  
  • The Program Director reviews lesson plans 2 weeks in advance of implementation. The reviews ensure that coaches empower and delight students, use the Five Forces model of 82nd Street Academics, and negotiate with the Program Director about needed supplies to implement coach-led activities. 
  • Create and maintain a network (Parents, School leaders, Community Leaders, etc.) - always and promptly when there is a concern that must be resolved.  
  • Liaise with the Department of Health, Department of Youth and Community Development, Expanded and Department of Education.  
  • Ensures that the program adheres to all DOH, DYCD, Expanded and DOE regulations at all times, and meets with inspectors when random visits are made. 
  • Ensure that coaches get homework complete and correct and empower students to perform in the top third of their class. 
Demonstrated Abilities 
  • Strong communication abilities in one-on-one meetings, in group settings, and in written communications. 
  • Takes personal accountability for the program outcomes and takes initiative to implement positive change in the face of challenges. 
  • Two years of experience in program management, preferably in the education or youth development field. 
  • Knowledge of STEM curricula, learning theories, and teaching strategies. 
  • Strong leadership and management skills, including experience supervising staff and managing budgets. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders. 
  • Experience with program evaluation and data analysis, and ability to use data to inform program decisions. 
Major Duties and Responsibilities include: 

  • Collaborate with school officials and community partners to design and implement effective curricula and learning experiences that meet the needs of diverse learners. 
  • Manage program staff, including recruiting, training, and supervising instructors, tutors, and mentors. 
  • Monitor program performance and collect data to assess the effectiveness of program strategies and identify areas for improvement. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local businesses and organizations to provide students with access to internships, mentorship, and other career development opportunities. 
  • Prepare and manage program budgets and secure funding from grants, donations, and other sources. 
  • Represent the program at community events and conferences, and engage with stakeholders to promote the program's mission and impact. 
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements related to program operations and student safety. 
  • Ensure student safety and attendance to the programs at all times. Everyone on our team must be outstanding in adherence to policies on attendance and punctuality, dress code, and setting a tone of respect in interactions with students, colleagues, parents, and After School at 82nd Street Academics staff members. 
  • Communicate with parents when there is a concern that must be resolved. Provide excellent customer service and a professional, caring demeanor. 
  • Much of our planning is based on college exploration activities. Staff will work as a team to provide activities and experiences that increase student awareness of the college application process and what options are available to them. We will work together to promote a college-attending environment among students.

Job Requirements: 
 
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field 
  • At least two years of experience working with elementary and/or secondary education student populations in a professional setting. 
  • Bilingual fluency is strongly preferred, depending on the community 
  • At least two years in a leadership role. 
  • Experience with contract compliance for DYCD or comparable funding 
Compensation: $70,000.00 per year
